Has the financial crisis affected your wedding dress budget?

Updated: Feb 21

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life—a celebration of love and the beginning of a new journey. While finding the perfect wedding dress is a significant part of the experience, it can also be one of the most expensive. In times of financial crisis or uncertainty, managing your wedding dress budget becomes even more crucial.

This is why Story of My Dress has opened its second boutique, Renew Bridal.  A true bridal experience with ex-samples and preloved wedding dresses and Separates.

At Story of My Dress and Renew Bridal, we are keen to help navigate you through your dress journey whilst helping you with your preferred budget.

Consider the following before visiting any wedding dress boutiques and starting your search…

Renew Bridal Room

Determine your budget:

We believe the most important first step in your bridal journey is to define your budget. Before you start shopping for your dream dress, take a realistic look at your overall wedding budget and determine how much you can afford to allocate to your wedding dress. Setting a clear budget from the outset will help you narrow down your options.

Research and explore:

Begin your search by researching different styles, designers, and retailers to get a sense of what's available within your budget. Keep an open mind and be willing to explore different avenues to find the perfect dress at the right price. Also, please consider that most bridal shops take a deposit at ordering and the balance can often be 9-12 months later, which helps spread costs.

At Story of My Dress we ask for a 70% deposit and the balance at fitting. We can offer a

3-way payment plan with a 50% deposit, please ask at your appointment for further information.

Contact the designer or store where you have seen the dress you wish to try & ask the price before you visit, to ensure it's within your budget. When websites do not show ££ do not expect them to be out of range, it's always worth asking.

Consider off-the-rack, ex-sample and preloved:

Off-the-rack and sample sales are excellent opportunities to find designer wedding dresses at discounted prices. These dresses are often in excellent condition and may only require minor alterations, making them a budget-friendly option for brides on a tight budget. At Renew Bridal we have many beautiful wedding dresses and separates in great condition priced between £150 and £1500. Shopping this way is also very sustainable and eco-friendly, re-using beautiful dresses that wish to be loved again.

Be open to alternatives:

Don't feel pressured to adhere to traditional expectations when it comes to your wedding dress. Consider alternative options such as separates, jumpsuits, or non-traditional dresses in different styles. Also, consider altering the dresses to create the look you want, so much can be done by our experienced dressmaker in our onsite studio above our bridal room.

Factor in alterations:

At Story of My Dress, alterations are not needed, our dresses are made to measure, so the cost of the dress is final.

At Renew Bridal there may be alterations needed. We always say to have up to a £250 budget for alterations, if required. This will vary depending on how much work is needed on the dress.
